Regardless of where you are in Centennial, its School districts are very highly rated. Cherry Creek, for example, is commonly considered to be THE best school district in the state of Colorado. It is commonly recognized for its award-winning excellence.

3. Great Centralized Location

Centennial is a south-Denver suburb that is conveniently located right in the middle of some of Colorado’s most popular cities. Denver is only a 20-minute drive north. Cherry Creek and Greenwood Village are right next to Centennial.

Littleton, Parker, Aurora, Lone Tree, and Highlands Ranch are all within 5-20 minutes from Centennial.

This is a huge pro of living in Centennial because you can get to almost anywhere you need to go very quickly, assuming that traffic is light.

4. Bronco’s Training Center & Other Rec Areas

Another cool thing worth noting about Centennial is that it is home to the famous Broncos Training Center. This training center is open to the public so you can swing by there whenever you have free time to watch one of the best football teams in the nation practice. If you’re an NFL and want to hop on the Denver Bronco Bandwagon, this is a great way to do it!

Alongside this famous training Center, Centennial also has some of the best Recreation centers in Denver. If you are a swimmer then you’ll love the Englewood Recreation Center. The Trails Recreation Center has a lot of open space with miles-long trails to walk, run or jog whatever you want. It is also a kid’s friendly space and there is a lot of open space for them to play too.

Goodson Recreation Center is another great place to hit a gym or go swimming. It offers all sorts of activities for those who go there.

5. Centennial Airport

Living in a city with its airport is whole another kind of feel can be extremely convenient. If you ever decide to go on a vacation or have to visit somewhere in an emergency, you wouldn’t have to go all the way to the Denver International Airport to get a flight. Tickets are more expensive here since it is a smaller airport, but the convenience factor here of it being right next door is hard to beat.

The Centennial is within a 10-minute drive from basically every corner of the city. There is an amazing restaurant in the airport area which is known as “Perfect Landing”. So, you can go there and have lunch with a view of planes landing and taking off now and then. You can’t do that in any other Colorado suburb!

6. Hotspot for Business

Centennial is a huge hotspot for businesses since it is a large city just south of the state’s capital. The economy in the Centennial is booming and there are a lot of businesses and job opportunities for all sorts of industries. Due to the high amount of businesses, stores, and headquarters in the area, the chances of you having your job just a few minutes away from your house is very high.

If you are looking to start a business this is a great area to do it. Businesses profit from Centennial’s centralized location since it is so easy for consumers all of the Denver Metro area to get there.

7. Proximity to the Denver Tech Center (DTC)

The Denver Tech Center is often considered to be the heart of Denver’s economy. There are tons of offices and businesses that are headquartered in the DTC.

In fact, the DTC area is 850 acres of businesses that employ tens of thousands of Colorado residents.

Many people choose to live in Centennial due to its proximity to the DTC. You can get there in less than 10 minutes from most Centennial neighborhoods.

1. High Cost of Living

Centennial living comes with a thick price tag. City living is not cheap and Centennial is no exception.

As you can see in the cost of the living table below, Centennial is more expensive than both the state and nation’s averages overall and in grocery, housing, and transportation.

In order to live comfortably in the city, you will likely need a household income of around $100,000.

2. Very Expensive Housing

We talked a little bit about the high cost of living in Centennial above, but it is definitely worth diving in deeper for this next con of living in this city.

Buying a house in this city is VERY expensive! Median Home Prices in Centennial are literally double the nation’s average! You can expect most single-family residences here to cost around $500,000-$800,000.

Obviously, there are a lot of pros to living in Centennial, but this is a huge con that really deters people from settling down here.

3. Heavy Traffic

Regardless of where you live in Centennial bad traffic is something you will have to face a lot. As we mentioned in the pros, Centennial is in a very nice centralized location. This means that a lot of people have to pass through it to get to where they need to go.

The rush hour is terrible in the area, so it is best to avoid being on the road during the evening weekdays. This traffic can easily double or triple your commute. The best way to avoid rush hour is to make a schedule of when you should be out and when you should avoid driving around the city.

Sure, this traffic isn’t nearly as bad as the standard traffic in LA or Chicago, but it is bad for Colorado standards. Plus, all the signs are showing that it will only get worse from here.

4. Car Dealerships of Every Corner

Centennial is full of car dealerships. They are literally all you see on some roads. If you are in the market looking for a car, this is a good thing. However, most people in Centennial are not looking to buy a car every time they drive past these dealerships every day. They definitely give the city a more crowded feel to it and it would be much prettier if those dealerships were parks or open spaces instead.

These dealerships give the area a congested feel it and are contributing to Centennial’s traffic dilemma.

5. Consistent Growth & Crowding

We have alluded to this already, but Centennial is a very large city and continues to grow more and more each year. It is following in Aurora’s footsteps and is on track to be in Colorado’s top 10 most populous cities in the near future.

Centennial has a suburban feel to it, but with all this growth it is starting to get too crowded. Congested cities typically lose the things that made them pretty and special in the first place, and this could be Centennial in the coming years. Those who want to live in a more open area are already migrating further south of Denver to cities like Castle Rock and Parker.

6. Not Many Outdoor Activties

When it comes to fun activities in the great outdoors, unfortunately, Centennial doesn’t have as much to offer as other Colorado suburbs. It has lots of restaurants, parks, recreation centers, and movie theaters, but it has become such a large urban city that it has lost some of that classic Colorado feel.

Sure, there are still plenty of trails to walk on, but if you want to go for a real hike in a secluded area you have to leave the city and go somewhere else.

7. Poor Public Transportation

As mentioned in the cost of living section of this list of cons, Centennial’s transportation is very expensive compared to the rest of the nation. This is likely due to the heavy traffic and the fact that most residents own cars and don’t use buses or other forms of public transport.

The light rail system has definitely helped public transportation in the area, but there is still a long way to go to catch up to the transportation that other large cities in the nation offer their residents.
